Our Research

Ontario has a strong cancer research environment that produces findings recognized around the world. Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) research supports improvements and innovations in disease prevention, clinical practice and cancer service delivery.

Research Office

The Research Office facilitates research activities across the organization including:

  • offering research services to help navigate the research process (legal, financial, privacy, data access and publishing)
  • fostering relationships with partners for funding opportunities and research collaborations
  • building a foundation for research by offering knowledge translation and exchange activities, knowledge mobilization and the virtual Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) Library

Research Navigation

The Research Office provides guidance on:

  • the research processes at Ontario Health (including finance, legal and privacy)
  • upcoming competitions, funding opportunities or grant applications (including letters-of-support)
  • agreements for host institutions, data sharing and funding arrangements
  • publication guidance
  • research partnerships and collaborations with people outside of Ontario Health
  • available datasets and how to access them

Research Rounds

Research Rounds are monthly corporate-wide opportunities for our staff, research community, partners and stakeholders to connect on current research. These touchpoints provide for the exchange of research knowledge that informs improvements and integration in our health system.

Ontario Health Research Week

This annual event connects our staff and research community to showcase mission-aligned research being conducted across the organization. It provides researchers with potential opportunities to collaborate on current or future initiatives that inform improved and equitable patient health outcomes and experiences in our health system.   

Patient Contact Studies

The Research Office manages the recruitment and consent process for scientists seeking the participation of Ontarians in research studies.  The Patient Contact Study process is approved by Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) and includes many privacy and legal safeguards respecting the valuable health data collected by Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario).  Through the IPC- approved Patient Contact Study process, the Research Office ensures individuals are allowed to make informed decisions when consenting and participating in research.

Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) Library

This online resource provides legacy CCO staff with access to peer-reviewed scientific literature (journal holdings, e-books, publications) and library services (including literature searches, training and workshops on search strategies).

Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) Research Repository

This online collection of research output contains over 5,200 records of staff publications, funded grants, conference presentations and studies using CCO data holdings.
