Patient Reported Outcomes and Symptom Management Program Strategic Framework 2016 to 2019

Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) facilitate conversations with care providers and increase patient involvement in care. This allows patients to focus on what is most relevant to their experience, help identify issues early, track symptoms over time and improve outcomes.

The PROs and Symptom Management Program Strategic Framework 2016 to 2019 highlights our focus areas, initiatives and evaluation for the next 3 years. It integrates patient-reported outcomes into clinical practice to improve cancer system screening and management across the province.

The framework was developed with the help of partners across Ontario, including patient and family advisors, and the Ontario Collaborative for Symptom Management Committee, to ensure it captures a unified vision of patient reported outcomes and symptom management.

The framework outlines key focus areas that are integral to implementing patient-reported outcomes and corresponding symptom management efforts for person-centred care across Ontario. A quick reference guide has also been created to provide a view at a glance.
